Draft resource operations plan
The Moreton draft Resource Operations Plan (PDF, 992 kB)* was released on 13 January 2009 for public comment. A summary brochure (PDF, 688 kB)* and explanatory notes (PDF, 141 kB)* accompany the draft ROP.
Submissions for the Moreton draft Resource Operations Plan have closed.
Request to modify interests in a water allocation
Attachment 8 of the Moreton draft Resource Operations Plan contains a list of water entitlement holders whose entitlements will be converted to water allocations when the resource operations plan is finalised. If there are changes to the tenancy arrangements listed on your water entitlement, please inform the Chief Executive of the Department of Natural Resources and Water by completing a Section 101(1)(a) - Request to modify interests in a water allocation form (PDF, 194 kB)*.
Water resource plan
The Water Resource (Moreton) Plan 2007 (listed under the Water Act 2000 ) was released in March 2007, following consideration of submissions on the draft plan.
Water resource plan amendment
In October 2008, amendments to the Plan were made under section 56 (4) of the Water Act 2000. The Water Resource (Moreton) Amendment Plan (No.1) 2008 (listed as item 362) provides for:
- The amendment of water allocation groups to enable the conversion of water licenses to tradeable water allocations.
- The transfer of an unsupplemented water allocation group to a supplemented water allocation group.
- The clarification of the geographical boundaries of water supply schemes.
- The amendment of the implementation schedule for two subcatchments to allow more time for thorough planning processes.
Moratorium on water bores in Brisbane
The Minister for Natural Resources and Water introduced a moratorium (PDF, 148 kB)* on construction of works that take underground water in parts of Brisbane on 12 May 2007.
Works and water to which the moratorium applies
It applies to all underground water in the Brisbane aquifer area. The moratorium applies to:
- the construction of new works to take underground water and
- the modification of existing works that would result in an increase to the take of underground water
Exemptions
The moratorium allows for certain activities to continue with minimum disruption. Landholders, who are not serviced by a reticulated water supply scheme operated by a local authority, will continue to be able to build infrastructure to access water to meet stock or domestic requirements. Local authorities will be able to take underground water for town water supply purposes. Exemptions are also provided for the construction, operation or maintenance of public assets and utilities. Water permits are also exempt.
Replacement works
Certain criteria must be adhered to when replacing existing works:
- works must be no deeper than existing works
- the works must be constructed on the same land title and
- the existing works must be decommissioned immediately upon the completion of the replacement works.
You must notify the department prior to undertaking works to replace existing works. A notification form is available from the department.
Lockyer Valley groundwater management
A recent amendment to the Water Regulation 2002 requires that land owners in Implementation area 2A (Tenthill and Ma Ma catchment areas) provide information on bores and water use to the department from 30 June 2009.
