Current status of planning activities

Moratorium on overland flow water

On 27 September 2008, the Minister announced his intention to include overland flow water in the Baffle Creek Basin draft Water Resource Plan (WRP) and released an amending moratorium notice that restricts the construction of works that can take overland flow water. The moratorium notice, which took effect on 16 July 2004, remains unchanged except for these additional restrictions.

The moratorium allows for the continued use of existing overland flow works. Exemptions for new overland flow development include the construction of works required for stock and domestic purposes and works up to 5 megalitre capacity.

Water resource plan

The Minister for Natural Resources and Water announced his intention to prepare a draft water resource plan for the Baffle Creek Basin in October 2006. An information report was released to assist understanding of the water resource planning process for the Baffle Creek Basin. An information report amendment (PDF, 682 kB)* was released in September 2008 to provide information on the inclusion of overland flow water in the WRP.

Community reference panel

A community reference panel for the draft Baffle Creek Basin water resource plan was established following  a submission process in 2006. A total of six community reference panel meetings were held; in April 2007, August 2007, November 2007, February 2008, July 2008 and December 2008.

Stage 1 economic and social report

The Stage 1 economic and social report (PDF, 936 kB)* was prepared to inform the development of the Baffle Creek Basin water resource plan. The report provides baseline economic and social information for the Baffle Creek Basin plan area.
