WRP catchments

The Department of Natural Resources and Water monitors the implementation of water resource plans. The water resource planning process is designed to plan for the allocation and sustainable management of water to meet Queensland's future water requirements.

Water resource plans strive to achieve a sustainable balance between meeting human needs and those of the environment.

Resource operations plans implement the outcomes and strategies specified in the water resource plan. They detail the practical business of sharing and managing the water resources from day-to-day in a way that meets the water resource plan's objectives.

The water resource planning project is governed by the Water Act 2000.

Unallocated water

Unallocated water is water that it is technically possible to make available for future use without compromising the environment or the supply to existing water users.
