The Department of Natural Resources and Water is responsible for the sustainable management of the state's land, water and vegetation.

From the list of topics on the left, you can access information on these major resource areas, and on how NRW supports natural resource management by:

  • maintaining a secure titling system for registering property ownership and all land-based transactions
  • providing mapping, surveying, topographic, geodetic and property-based information and services
  • land management and planning, monitoring the condition of the land, and minimising land degradation
  • developing policies, plans and evaluation systems to manage access to, and use of, Queensland's water resources
  • administering the government's framework for regulating the clearing of native vegetation
  • conducting science and research activities
  • protecting cultural heritage, including landscapes, places and objects
  • protecting native title, with an emphasis on resolving claims through negotiation.
