Surveying

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)

GNSS, which include satellite and ground infrastructure and equipment used to determine geographic positions on earth are being employed in many applications to determine positions all over Queensland. The department is the lead agency for GNSS in Queensland.

Survey standards

In Queensland, the department is responsible for establishing standards for surveying, with which registered surveyors must comply.

Fundamental data

The department maintains computer information systems fundamental to all survey activities in the state. These include survey control data, digital cadastral data and the State Geodetic Network.

Station names (survey control marks)

In the Australian National Network, survey control marks are about 500 kilometres apart. Each state geodetic network has additional survey marks about 100 kilometres apart.

Geocentric datum of Australia

Surveys, maps, charts and spatial data applications require a coordinate reference system called a geodetic datum so they can be located in their correct position on the earth's surface.

GDA conversion software

The department maintains free software to assist in the transformation of spatial information from AGD66 and AGD84 to GDA94.
