MapView
Map and measure on your PC using MapView—a tool that enables you to view maps at a large range of scales.

MapView also enables you to:
- display cursor coordinates and height
- find a location
- zoom in on a keymap
- measure distances, areas and slopes
- record/display geocoded text, contacts or web links
- record a map profile
- display GPS position direction and vehicle speed
- display selected data.
Data
MapView consists of two main datasets:
- raster images—the key map background and high resolution orthophotos, (aerial photos that have been corrected to remove distortions caused by camera tilts and the effect of changing ground elevation)
- vector data—information on themes, drainage, contours, feature names and symbols.
This data is structured into the following six themes, each including several of the following data layers:
- system
- aerial photography
- transport
- topography
- culture
- symbols.
Features
MapView tools include:
- overlay manager to turn themes and layers on or off within ranges of levels, or to reformat them (e.g. change colour or font)
- draw to enable or disable the drawing of vector layers
- level selector to change views quickly from one scale to another
- quick zoom to set the level selector to display either a map level or the map scale
- measure to calculate distances, areas and slopes
- radius to draw a circle at a given radius around a selected point.
- profile to record a profile of the ground surface
- GPS input to control signals from global positioning system receiver
- scale bar position to select one of nine locations for the scale bar.
Registration
To use MapView, you must:
- register as a user
- authorise each CD for use on each PC on which MapView is installed.
This registration number is also necessary for purchasing security codes to save map image files.
