Client maps

Custom mapping

The Department can produce customer-defined maps for particular areas, which include information from departmental spatial datasets such as:

  • aerial photography
  • satellite imagery
  • property boundaries
  • topography (contours and drainage).

Customers can request information from an individual dataset or a combination of datasets. However, this can be limited by the type of data available across the State.

Customers can nominate the size and scale of the map, which is supplied in hardcopy and as a laminated paper plot. (The scale may be limited to the quality of the available image).

For further information on custom mapping, refer to fact sheet L110 Custom mapping (PDF, 269 kB)*.

Enquiring about a custom map

To obtain a custom map, describe the area to be mapped by supplying any of the following:

  • Lot on Plan numbers of all lots to be mapped (preferred option)
  • a map with a rectangle drawn on it defining the extent of the area
  • latitude and longitude or grid coordinates of the extent (including the datum).

Details of mapping requirements should also be provided, such as:

  • show aerial photography, property boundaries and contours
  • use maximum scale on A0 size paper
  • supply two copies of the map, one laminated.

Customers should email the information to Spatial Information or contact DERM on (07) 3896 3019.

Tactual maps

Example of a tactual map In conjunction with the Queensland Tactual Mapping Committee, the department has produced over 80 tactual maps for blind and vision impaired people, to help them in everyday situations (e.g. visiting the Brisbane City Mall). Braille and low vision users have indicated that they appreciate the independence and mobility these maps give them.

The maps are simplified, generalised maps that have been prepared with particular attention to line size, symbols, patterns and use of braille. They are usually printed with a low vision version on one side and a braille raised image on the reverse.

Tactual maps and further information can be obtained by emailing Spatial Information or contacting the
