In this context, pasture preservation, refers to hay and silage making processes only. Hay is made by drying pastures, while silage is made through a process of fermentation that maintains a high moisture content. Both involve the removal of organic matter and subsequently nutrients from the paddock. Hay and silage are produced for sale, production feeding, dry season reserve or as an aid to pasture management.
