In this context, stocking rate can be defined as the amount of space (volume of water) allocated to each aquatic animal for a specific time period. Stocking rate influences animal performance, water quality and waste production.
The direct impacts of over stocking may include:
- Increased pressure on resources
- Reduced productivity of individual animals
- Increased opportunity for disease outbreak
- Reduced water quality
The impacts of under stocking may include:
- Reduced animal productivity per area
